Cricket fans can’t wait to be entertained by their favourite cricket players and teams in the IPL 2022 tournament. IPL auction 2022 was conducted in Bengaluru on the 12th and 13th of February 2022, as part of the preparation for the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. About 590 cricketers showed up for the auction as the different cricket teams bought their favourite players to improve their squad for the upcoming league. Of the total number of cricketers, 370 were Indian players and the remaining 220 were overseas players. Based on the IPL auction 2022 player list that was released there were 7 players from Associate Nations, 228 capped players and 355 uncapped players. 

But only a total number of 204 players were selected during the auction from which we have 137 Indian players and 67 overseas players. The IPL will run for more than two months starting from March 26 and the final match will be on May 29. With two new teams being added to the tournament this year, it means IPL 2022 will feature 10 teams instead of 8 teams in the previous editions. Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Supper Giants are the newly added IPL teams to the tournament. The IPL 2022 tournament is sponsored by the TATA Group and that is the main reason it is named TATA IPL 2022.

Some of The Most Expensive Players at the IPL Auction 2022

Making the top list of the most expensive cricket players during the auction include Ishan Kishan who was bought with an auction price of about Rs. 15.25 crores. Followed by Deepak Chahar who was bought at Rs. 14 crores, while Shreyas Iyer was bought for Rs. 12.25 crores and Rs. 11.5 crores for Liam Livingstone among others. 

The IPL 2022 Game Venue Details

The IPL 2022 will be conducted across 6 venues within Gujarat and Maharashtra as BCCI is trying to reduce the venues where the matches will take place due to Covid19. About four venues will be used during the tournament and the probability of one venue at Pune with the final game and the four playoff games to be at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Other possible venues the matches can be played in Mumbai include Jio stadium, Wankhede stadium, DY Patil stadium and Brabourne stadium. 

IPL 2022 Matches And Grouping

A total number of 10 teams will be battling for the league title with a total number of 74 matches to be played including the playoffs and the finals. Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giant and Rajasthan Royals are group under group A. while Punjab Kings, Royals Challengers Bangalore, Sunriser Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings are under group B. For each group, each team will play two matches against the team in their group and one match against the one situated on the same spot in the other group. During the league stage, every team will be playing a total of 14 matches.

IPL Teams

In total we have 10 teams participating in the IPL 2022 tournament and among the 10 teams are two new teams which is the new IPL team in 2022. The ten teams are Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giant, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Royals Challengers Bangalore, Sunriser Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings.

Delhi Capitals

In Delhi Capitals four players were retained in their squad for the IPL 2022 auction, also they reserve their skippers which are Axar Patel, Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw and Anrich Nortje. After the auction, they are left with a total number of 24 players in their squad since they bought 20 players during the auction.

Chennai Super Kings

For IPL 2022, Chennai super kings will be led by MS Dhoni. Ms Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings skipper)and three other players by the name Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali and Rururaj Gaikwad were retained by the Franchise in the team.. they bought 21 players during the IPL 2022 auction. The key teams bought during the auction are Ambati Rayudu, Deepak Chahar, Devon Conway, Dwayne Bravo and Mitchell Santner. The team’s costliest player is Deepak Chahar.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine and Venkatesh Iyer were the four players retained for IPL 2022. Shreyas Iyer was also nominated as the team’s skipper for IPL 2022. Kolkata Knight Riders also bought 21 players during the IPL 2022 auction.

Mumbai Indians

During the IPL 2022 auctions, Mumbai Indians bought 21 players. They also retained 4 players, Jasprit Suryakumar, Kieron Pollard, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah. Ishan Kishan was said to be the costliest player of all.

Rajasthan Royals

Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler were retained in their team. 21 players were bought during the IPL 2022 auction. Pradish Krishna was bought for Rs. 10 crores which was said to be the most expensive player bought by Rajasthan Royals.

Punjab Kings

Two players were retained and 23 players were bought. The key teams are Jonny Bairstow, Kagiso Rabada, Shikhar Dhawan and Liam Livingstone.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

They retained three players and bought 19 players. The team has not nominated any skipper for the IPL 2022 match.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad retained 3 players and bought 20 players. Nicholas Pooran is the most expensive player bought.

Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow Super Giants which is the new IPL team in 2022 bought 3 players before the auction and bought 18 players during the auction.

Gujarat Titan

Gujarat Titans also which is the new IPL team in 2022 before the auction bought 3 players and also bought 20 players during the auction.
